Regent Audio to Go On Pause
Regent Audio has provided thousands of people with years of service, bringing the very best in Christian thought and culture to a large and engaged community. “We deeply value this work and everything our community has given to it,” said President Jeff Greenman. “So we want to show great care now in conveying the College’s need to pause Regent Audio at this time.”
Regent Audio material will cease to be available for purchase after August 15, 2024, and will no longer be downloadable from Regent’s site after September 19, 2024.
This pause is necessary for two main reasons. The first is that we need to undertake a thorough audit of our Regent Audio material to ensure compliance with British Columbia’s stringent privacy law. There are strict conditions related to handling personal information, including releasing recordings that include the voices of students or audience members. In some cases, release forms granting specific permissions are necessary. The province’s rules have evolved over time, and we hold many older recordings that do not take these stipulations into account. Therefore, Regent is currently evaluating the best way to address this situation in a way that will fully comply with BC law and the privacy interests of all our audio contributors, while also ensuring that the global church continues to be able to access outstanding resources and conversations taking place throughout the Regent community.
When might Regent Audio resources again become available? This brings us to the second reason for this pause, which is that Regent’s new Strategic Plan calls for a “fresh expression” of Regent’s identity. This part of the plan will involve renewing how Regent produces and distributes resources to our global community and the general public, and will include a revamp of our Lifelong Learning offerings, upgrades to Regent’s website, and much more. President Greenman added, “We have an exciting opportunity with these changes. Regent’s faculty and many guest speakers have valuable contributions to offer to contemporary Christian thinking. Our next steps demand creative and careful consideration.”
President Greenman expressed his gratitude for Regent Audio’s legacy and anticipation for new ways to share Regent’s audio content. “We thank all our Regent Audio listeners for their patience as we discern the best way forward, and we thank all our speakers for the insight, wisdom, and expertise they have shared with our global community through this outstanding body of recorded work. We look forward to keeping everyone up to date as we introduce new ways to engage with the vibrant conversations that matter so much to our community.”
