On Thursday, November 30 from 12 to 1 pm, the John Richard Allison Library will present a Rare Book Talk with Bruce Hindmarsh, Professor of Spiritual Theology and Professor of the History of Christianity.

Join Bruce outside the library's Rare Books Room as he discusses his latest work, Amazing Grace: The Life of John Newton and the Surprising Story Behind his Song alongside rare editions of Newton’s writings on display from the Allison Library’s Rare Book Collection.

This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the Anglican clergyman who penned the beloved hymn, “Amazing Grace,” and to view a selection of the Library’s rare books up close.

About Bruce Hindmarsh

Bruce is James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology and Professor of the History of Christianity at Regent College. He took his D.Phil. degree in theology at Oxford University in 1993.

In addition to Amazing Grace, Bruce has authored John Newton and the English Evangelical Tradition (Oxford University Press, 1996), The Evangelical Conversion Narrative (Oxford University Press, 2005), and The Spirit of Early Evangelicalism (Oxford University Press, 2018).

A fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Bruce is a past-president of the American Society of Church History. He teaches the history of Christian spirituality and speaks often to lay audiences as well as preaches in his own church and elsewhere.

The John Richard Allison Library
