Join us in the Regent College Chapel to hear from Mia Chung, a world-renowned pianist and music theorist, and Loren E. Wilkinson, a philosopher who works at the intersections of the arts, science, and earthkeeping.

About the Speakers
Pianist Mia Chung served most recently as Professor of Musical Studies and Performance at the Curtis Institute of Music, having joined the faculty in 2012 for her expertise in piano performance and interpretive analysis of tonal and atonal compositions. Chung’s CD and DVD recordings of works by Bach, Beethoven, and Schumann, among others, have earned high praise and awards. Chung was the first prize winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition and recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the highest national recognition for American concert artists. She has since performed in numerous concert halls around the world, including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw, Symphony Hall in Boston, and Lincoln Center. Her first monograph, Chinese Emigré Composers and Divergent Modernisms: Chen Yi and Zhou Long, will be published in early 2024 by Cambridge University Press (Elements in Music After 1945 Series). In the last several years, Mia has taken a great interest in the work of Christian study centers and has founded and is executive director of the Octet Collaborative at MIT. Dr. Chung earned her BA magna cum laude in Music from Harvard College, a Master of Music degree from Yale University, and a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the Juilliard School. Loren E. Wilkinson is Professor Emeritus of Interdisciplinary Studies & Philosophy at Regent College. Wilkinson’s interests include Christianity and the arts, philosophy, and earthkeeping. He has written many scholarly and popular articles developing a Christian environmental ethic and exploring the human relationship to the natural world in its environmental, aesthetic, scientific, and religious dimensions. His books include Earthkeeping in the Nineties: Christian Stewardship of Natural Resources (1991), Caring for Creation in Your Own Backyard (co-authored with Mary Ruth Wilkinson, 1992), and Circles and the Cross: Cosmos, Consciousness, Christ, and the Human Place in Creation (2023). Loren Wilkinson lives on Galiano Island with his wife Mary Ruth. They have two adult children and three grandchildren.
