Martyrs, Monks & Mystics – A Travel Course
Join faculty members Bruce and Carolyn Hindmarsh for a once-in-a-lifetime tour of Italy led by experienced guide Pastor Bronwyn Spilsbury. As we travel from Rome to Florence, we will also journey through centuries of Christian history, tracing the development of Christian life and devotion from the era of persecution to the Christian society of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance.
About the Journey
From the catacombs in Rome to the Florentine world of Dante, we will see the transition of Christianity from a persecuted sect to a cornerstone of European culture captured before our eyes in the physical records of architecture and art. Our trip will include visits to many landmark sites, such as the Colosseum, the Forum, the Vatican, the Uffizi, and the Academia.
We will experience this too as an exercise of devotion and the “communion of the saints” as we enter into the journey as Christian pilgrims together. Each day will begin with a brief meditation on Scripture and an appropriate text for the day related to what we are seeing.
In addition to three informative lectures, there will be “mini-lectures” on the bus and on location to help you get the most out of the experience. We will also take advantage of local guides and their unique expertise all the way along. There is an accompanying syllabus for those wishing to take this as a course for credit, which we encourage for maximum benefit.
