Together at Midday
This event has now ended. Please view this page to see all our upcoming events.
One of the hallmarks of life at Regent is the opportunity to be together -- reflecting, discussing, sharing, praying -- and in the midst of doing so, to forge new relationships and to strengthen old ones. While we can’t do so in person this year, we invite you to join us at midday every other Wednesday this fall to engage with a short reflection from current and former Regent faculty or a special guest, and then spend time in a breakout room discussing, reflecting, and getting to know one another. Together at Midday is open to our wide Regent community, so this is a lovely opportunity to get to know alumni, current students, and friends of the College. Feel free to eat your lunch while we are together.
This week we will be joined by Toni Kim who will share a reflection entitled "Following Jesus in Weakness and Hope." Like the Apostle Paul, we all "want to know Christ--yes, to know the power of his resurrection" (Phil 3:10), but not many of us want the rest of the verse: "and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death." What does it mean to follow a God who deliberately chose a path of weakness, suffering and death? What does it look like to embrace weakness with hope?
Toni Kim recently joined the Regent College Board of Governors. She was a minister at the historic Park Street Church in downtown Boston for 17 years. She received her B.S. in applied math from Yale University, and a Master in Christian Studies from Regent College, with a double concentration in Biblical languages and interdisciplinary studies. Her thesis was on what the Bible says about shame and how that impacts Asian-American ministry. Toni lives in Charlottesville, VA, and is a spiritual mentor to many. She and her husband Walter have been married for 25 years and have two teenagers, including a daughter with Down syndrome who has lived up to her middle name of Joy. Toni is a shepherd administrator with a passion for educational equity and serving on boards.
