The Wise Leader

This course is available only to students enrolled in our Master of Arts program in Leadership, Theology, and Society.

This course explores ethical leadership, focusing on the formation and exercise of wise leadership. The course draws on theological and philosophical writings about ethical leadership as well as the interdisciplinary lens of literature (novels, poetry, and movies). Complex issues of ethics, vision and identity are presented through fictional characters and then applied to real-life situations. How do Christian leaders develop a strong moral compass? How ought dilemmas that test and tempt be handled? How is character formed – and wisdom gained?  Wise leaders learn by examining others’ narratives, reflecting on personal experience, learning from failure, and exercising spiritual discernment.
