Visiting Scholars and In Residence

Rennis Ponniah

Scholar-in-Residence
B.Soc.Sc. (University of Singapore), MDiv (Trinity Theological College, Singapore)
The Rt Rev Rennis Ponniah was the 9th Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Singapore from 2012 to 2020. Since his retirement from the office of diocesan bishop, he has continued an active ministry of preaching, teaching, mentoring leaders and serving on the leadership team of the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GSFA for short, see www.thegsfa.org).

Bishop Rennis’ training is in the fields of sociology and theology. He has studied at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Chicago, 1989); Regent College (Vancouver, 1996); and Trinity Theological College (Singapore, 1999-2000). His particular fields of interest are biblical theology, ecclesiology and pastoral theology. He was ordained a Priest in 1991 and served as Vicar of St John’s – St Margaret’s Church in Singapore, an Anglican parish of about 1800 worshippers, for almost twenty years (1993-2012). His great passion is to grow local churches to become communities of disciples who base their lives on Scripture and move in the power of the Holy Spirit to reach a world in need of Christ.

He is looking forward in the days to come to continue teaching the Word of God, personally guiding pastors and lay leaders, joint pastoral ministry with Amir his wife, and fun time with his seven young grandchildren!
