The Facilities Assistant provides general maintenance of the physical facilities, resource support for day to day operations, and maintains a clean and safe building for an optimal learning and work environment.

The salary range for this role is $39,000-$42,000 commensurate upon skills and experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Set up, adjust, and clean rooms for classes and special events (Gallery openings, Evening Public Lectures, conferences etc)
  • Empty garbage, recycling, and compost from building exterior and interior
  • Clean and re-stock washrooms
  • Respond to and clean spills, breaks and accidents as needed
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs around the building (faucets, fuses etc)
  • Call and schedule outside service providers and tradespeople for major repairs
  • Manage facility storage rooms and provide access for staff and contractors
  • Share supervision of the student employee team with Building Operations Manager 
  • Function as the lead trainer for student employee team
  • Monitor and confront suspicious persons and escort them off the property calling the RCMP as necessary
  • Respond to emergency situations (security, blocked drains, leaks etc)
  • Act as the level 2 Occupational First Aid attendant (training will be provided)
  • Paint and touch up the building interior, specifically classrooms
  • Replace ceiling tiles, light bulbs, and ballasts in the building
  • Shovel and salt walking areas during the winter as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the HR Coordinator and Building Operations Manager

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a person who:

  • Understands and supports the ethos and mission of Regent College as articulated in the Theological Position
  • Experience in Janitorial Services and/or General Maintenance is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Health and Safety and First Aid is strongly preferred
  • Has a basic level of mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Is able to identify and use general tools
  • Can lift up to 30lbs frequently 
  • Can be on their feet and walk large distances over the course of a day
  • Is reliable, dependable and able to work independently
  • Has a mature, flexible, and adaptable attitude to respond to needs around the College
  • Is curious about how things work
  • Is able to plan out daily and weekly activities and tasks
  • Is able to anticipate needs before they arise
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and a professional attitude when dealing with clientele of the College—students, employees, visitors, vendors etc.
  • Is able to use email and word processing
