Dr. Edwin Hui Appointed Chee Family Dean of Chinese Studies
We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Dr. Edwin Hui as the inaugural Chee Family Dean of Chinese Studies at Regent College.
The Jimmy Chee Foundation has generously provided funding for the establishment of the Chee Family Deanship in 2016. Their gift supports the hiring and retention of a Dean of Chinese Studies in order to promote better understanding of and engagement with the Christian tradition in Chinese-speaking regions throughout the world.
The Chee Family’s gracious support has long been a blessing to the Regent College Community. Dr. Jeffrey Greenman, President of Regent College, expressed profound gratitude for this recent gift and enthusiasm over Dr. Hui’s appointment, commenting, “The generous support of the Chee Family is a tremendous blessing to Regent College’s ministry. They have been valued friends and active partners in Regent’s work for decades. The founding of the Chee Family Deanship is another step in strengthening Regent’s global impact in the years ahead. The appointment of Dr. Hui as the first holder of this position is a fitting tribute to his truly outstanding leadership in our Chinese Studies Program. He is a visionary pioneer, an outstanding scholar, and a gracious mentor.”
Dr. Edwin Hui is an internationally renowned authority on the intersection of Christianity and Chinese culture. He began his work with Regent’s Chinese Studies program as a Program Director in 1990. Over the years, Dr. Hui has established and fostered important relationships between Regent College and several key Chinese universities, leading to the development of Regent’s current Chinese Scholars program. Dr. Hui’s work in welcoming and hosting Chinese doctoral students has had a profound impact both on Regent College and on the many visiting scholars who have had the opportunity to study with him. In addition to all this, Dr. Hui is an expert on matters of bioethics, with extensive experience speaking, writing, and guiding private and public policy development in both Asian and North American contexts. Dr. Hui’s breadth of knowledge and thoughtful direction is the driving force behind the present success of Regent’s Chinese Studies program, and we are deeply grateful for his continued leadership in this area.
